I figured "race Pinto" was an oxymoron.

My dad had one with a 302 and four barrel. That was not a slow car, no matter what people say.

That Lima can actually be pretty quick when tuned properly and the engine's set up right - Esslinger cam gear, Mallory ignition box, this kid's on the right track.
Screw it, I'd buy it.
Though I can't tell you why I'd rather not just pop in a 302 since it weighs about 10 pounds more than the Lima. That engine is HEAVY. But I like it.

Old days, 70's. Couldn't drive yet, I got friended by a guy that had a Pinto. Showed me the world by taking me to his job and we cleaned stables. Got $2/hour for the work (and being me, I worked it.)
Then he changed his ride to a 442, and that was styling. Still couldn't drive, but we even made up songs about that car.

Can I have a Bobcat instead?

Much classier. Actually, the first stick shift I ever tried to drive was a Pinto belonging to a friend.

150 years ago when I was 5 and we first moved to Colorado, our next door neighbor had an orange Pinto runabout and a brown Pinto wagon. A few years later we lived next to another family that had an AMC Gremlin and an AMC Pacer. I blame both these families for my questionable automotive tastes, because I was fascinated by all those cars.
Also, while looking for Bobcats on eBay Motors, I found the most gloriously awful stereotypically 70's Bobcat in existence. I want to own it.

I blame the slowness on me laying down at 9pm...then never getting up again. For a young man I lead a boring life haha.
